X began moving U.S. creator compensation payments from Stripe to its proprietary X Money service on Sept. 2, 2026. The change covers the Original Content Rewards Program, which pays creators based on content view counts, and Subscriptions, which provides paid benefits to followers. Creators already using X Money require no additional steps, while others are being encouraged to register. Unlike the previous biweekly Stripe process, which carried a $30 minimum payout, X says payments through X Money no longer require waiting for a billing cycle or accumulating the minimum amount. The announcement leaves unclear whether U.S. creators can choose another payout method, prompting calls for clarification. Creators outside the U.S. will continue receiving payments through Stripe. X Money launched in the United States on July 28, 2026, and includes deposit accounts, peer-to-peer transfers, a Visa debit card with 3% cashback, instant settlement and no ATM fees. Funds are held at FDIC-protected Cross River Bank, while the service is being rolled out progressively to X Premium and Premium Plus subscribers. X is also retiring the Creator Revenue Sharing Program on Sept. 7, following a halt to new applications the previous month, with Original Content Rewards serving as its successor. Creator payments through X Money count toward direct-deposit requirements for higher interest rates, including 6% for X Premium users versus 4% for standard users. X will issue 1099-NEC forms to individual recipients and require W-9 information from creators paid through entities such as LLCs.
