Boeing paid a $3.1 million fine to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the U.S. aviation safety regulator, after the agency said the planemaker committed a series of safety violations. The violations included actions tied to the 2024 Alaska Airlines MAX 9 mid-air emergency. The FAA proposed the fine in September 2025, and Boeing paid it in January, but the payment had not previously been publicly disclosed. Boeing confirmed the payment to Reuters. The FAA also said last year that it was fining Boeing for interfering with the independence of safety officials.
