The NBA suspended Los Angeles Clippers owner Steve Ballmer for one year and imposed broad sanctions over salary-cap circumvention rules related to star player Kawhi Leonard. Leonard was found to have pressured the Clippers for off-court income opportunities, obtained those opportunities and failed to reimburse the team for personal expenses. He was ordered to pay the league $700,000. The Clippers were fined $30 million and ordered to forfeit first-round picks in the 2029, 2030, 2031, 2032 and 2033 NBA drafts. Clippers President of Business Operations Gillian Zucker was suspended without pay for one year, while Clippers President of Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank received a six-month unpaid suspension. The NBA said the sanctions followed Ballmer's involvement in a business deal the league described as a precondition for Aspiration to enter an endorsement agreement with Leonard.
