SM Group Chairman Woo Oh-hyun will donate 7 billion won to Yeoju University to cover state scholarship funding for students entering in 2027, after the Education Ministry placed the school under scholarship and student-loan restrictions. The decision is intended to reduce the financial burden on students and parents. Woo, who chairs the Dongshin Education Foundation that operates the university, provides about 1 billion won in scholarships to each incoming class annually and has funded major campus renovations and development projects. Yeoju University said it would use the donation to protect prospective students and their families from additional costs while pursuing legal action against the restrictions.
