Cincinnati was cleared of wrongdoing after the NCAA ruled it would not punish the university over former quarterback Brendan Sorsby’s sports gambling. Sorsby was found to have committed a Level III violation, which the NCAA describes as isolated or limited in scope, while court filings and his account in Paramount+’s four-part documentary The Program: Texas Tech detailed more than 9,000 wagers totaling over $90,000 across a four-year period. The wagers included at least 40 bets on Indiana football while he was an Indiana freshman in 2022. At Cincinnati, filings showed at least 165 bets, representing about 500 individual wagers when parlay legs were counted and totaling at least $38,000. Sorsby said he continued betting after transferring to Texas Tech despite increased NIL earnings and expressed remorse. He briefly regained eligibility under a June 8 court order that cleared him to play in 2026, but a Big 12 lawsuit was later deemed too significant an obstacle. The NFL rejected his supplemental-draft request, barred him from joining as a free agent this season and encouraged him to prepare for possible entry into the 2027 NFL Draft.
