KB Kookmin Bank trained approximately 50 executives and division heads to use generative AI, saying leaders must experience its practical impact before organization-wide adoption can accelerate. The program, conducted over sessions on the 25th of last month and the 2nd of this month, involved using Microsoft’s Copilot to draft preliminary 2027 business plans. The bank said on the 3rd that Chief Executive Lee Hwan-joo joined the training. Lee said AI adoption would spread quickly only when leaders used the technology in their actual work and experienced the results themselves, adding that the bank would continue strengthening employees’ AI capabilities. The initiative is part of a broader transformation program involving dedicated AI personnel in each business group, AI-use metrics in performance evaluations, an AI Academy and an AI Challenge for sharing use cases. KB Kookmin Bank plans to provide Copilot licenses to frontline employees and expand related training as security, accuracy and regulatory concerns continue to shape generative AI adoption in South Korea’s financial sector.
