Power Construction Corporation of China, or POWERCHINA, is advancing more than 1.8 GW of wind projects in Egypt while expanding into energy storage infrastructure and local manufacturing. Its portfolio includes the operational 500 MW Amunet Gulf of Suez Wind Project, alongside the 1.1 GW Gulf of Suez Wind Project and the 202.5 MW Ras Ghareb Wind Project, both under construction. In August 2026, POWERCHINA began building Sungrow’s energy storage manufacturing facility in Ain Sokhna on a 50,000-square-meter site. The plant is planned to have annual production capacity of 10 GWh, with operations scheduled to begin in June 2027, and is expected to become Sungrow’s first battery energy storage system manufacturing base in the Middle East and Africa. Initial output is expected to support the Sustainable Energy Valley project in Minya Governorate, for which Sungrow will supply 4 GWh of storage systems. POWERCHINA says its work in Egypt has created more than 2,000 direct jobs and more than 10,000 indirect jobs since 2012, while training more than 350 professionals and working with Egyptian suppliers, subcontractors and consultants. The expansion comes as China and Egypt mark 70 years of diplomatic relations and reflects a broader shift from individual projects toward an integrated clean-energy ecosystem spanning generation, storage and local industrial capacity.
