South Korea’s KOSPI rose 95.85 points, or 1.46%, to 6,658.57 as of 1:28 p.m., nearing the 6,700 level after climbing as high as 6,682.97 intraday. Financial shares, large-cap secondary battery stocks and recovering semiconductor shares drove the rebound, which recovered most of the previous session’s losses. Foreign investors sold a net 467.4 billion won ($343.6 million), while retail investors sold 778.7 billion won ($572.4 million). Institutions bought a net 79.8 billion won ($58.7 million), helping underpin the rally. Sentiment improved after comments from the New York Fed president interpreted recent rate increases as reflecting economic strength and diminishing tariff effects, while expectations for easing inflation and weaker-than-expected August ADP private payrolls reduced pressure from the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield. Broadcom’s projection that AI semiconductor revenue would double annually through fiscal 2028 also supported AI investment sentiment despite conservative guidance. KB Financial Group led major market-cap stocks with a 6.03% gain, while LG Energy Solution rose 4.60%. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix gained 1.00% and 1.05%, respectively, after paring earlier advances. KOSDAQ fell 1.01 points, or 0.13%, to 802.97, with Alteogen reversing from an intraday gain of more than 5% to a 2.68% decline amid short-selling pressure. The won strengthened 2.9 won against the dollar to 1,357.4 won.
