Samsung C&T has been selected as a strategic partner for a 1.2-gigawatt small modular reactor project in Sweden led by Studsvik. Samsung C&T signed a Joint Development Agreement in Stockholm with GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy and Studsvik AB. The project calls for four 300-megawatt BWRX-300 reactors, a boiling water reactor design developed by GE Vernova Hitachi based on existing BWR technology. Studsvik will oversee project development, including permits, environmental impact assessments and government consultations, while Samsung C&T and GE Vernova Hitachi will act as joint engineering, procurement and construction partners. The reactors are planned for a Studsvik-owned site with nuclear operating permits, and commercial operations are targeted for the mid-2030s.
