Electoral Commission records published on Wednesday showed that BitMEX co-founder Ben Delo gave Reform UK £4 million in April through two cash payments of £1 million on April 17 and £3 million on April 30. The donations represented 72% of the 40 contributions declared for the second quarter, which totaled £5.55 million, and exceeded every other gift in British politics that quarter. Delo had already donated £2 million in January and £2 million in March, bringing his 2026 total to £8 million. Thailand-based investor Christopher Harborne gave Reform UK £3 million in January but was absent from the second-quarter register, helping drive the party’s private income down 44% from £9.94 million. Delo received a pardon from President Trump in March 2025 after admitting a Bank Secrecy Act violation in February 2022; BitMEX had failed to maintain proper customer checks and paid a $10 million fine. Farage has faced questions over crypto lobbying rules, while Britain banned crypto asset donations in March and capped overseas donations at £100,000 per year in July, although those rules do not apply to Delo’s cash payments.
