Broadcom has started production shipments of Google’s next-generation TPU v8i as Alphabet expands its custom artificial-intelligence chip program and Anthropic prepares to deploy 5 gigawatts of the chips in 2027. CEO Hock Tan said the v8i offers more memory and bandwidth than the Ironwood TPU v7 and is optimized for AI inference workloads. Broadcom has also expanded its long-term agreement with Google to develop and supply future TPUs and AI networking products, with annual deliveries expected to be worth "multi-tens of billions of dollars" over the next several years. Anthropic is set to receive 1 gigawatt of Ironwood capacity in 2026, followed by 5 gigawatts of TPU v8i in 2027 and a potential 10 gigawatts in 2028. Broadcom’s AI semiconductor revenue rose 221% year over year to $16.7 billion in the fiscal third quarter, and the company expects $58 billion in AI revenue for fiscal 2026. Its fourth-quarter revenue forecast came in slightly below analysts’ estimates, weighing on the stock after hours.
