Prediction-market pricing for a potential visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to the United States fell over the past 24 hours, with the probability of a visit by Dec. 31, 2026, declining from 96% to 94.5% and the probability of a visit by Nov. 1, 2026, dropping from 95% to 93.3%. The market moves indicate slightly weaker confidence in the visit amid strained U.S.-China relations, while participants continue to weigh the prospect of high-level talks against the risk of further diplomatic and economic escalation. The dispute follows China’s demand that Washington lift Iran-related sanctions on Chinese companies and citizens. China’s Ministry of Commerce said the U.S. measures lacked international-law or United Nations Security Council authorization, interfered with normal trade and threatened global energy security. The United States announced sanctions in July against six individuals and entities in four countries, including China, over alleged support for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Mahan Air.
