PowerBank Corporation has been awarded a contract to develop and build a 1.628 MW DC ground-mount solar project at the State University of New York at Oneonta in Oneonta, New York. The contract was issued through a competitive Request for Proposals administered by NYPA (New York Power Authority), and was awarded to an entity owned by PowerBank's wholly owned U.S. subsidiary, Abundant Solar Power Inc. PowerBank plans to own and operate the project after construction. The array will connect behind the meter (directly serving an on-site customer rather than exporting first to the grid) and supply campus facilities. It will be SUNY Oneonta's first MW-scale on-site solar array and supports the university's Clean Energy Master Plan, including efforts to reduce scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions and lower peak electricity demand. The next project milestone is receipt of a building permit. Once operational, the project is expected to produce enough electricity to power the equivalent of approximately 205 homes annually. PowerBank estimates construction value at $3.58 million and expects eligibility for about $1.4 million in U.S. federal Investment Tax Credits. Company President and Chief Operating Officer Andrew van Doorn said the award reflects PowerBank's execution history and that the company will advance the project through permitting and construction with NYPA and the university. NYPA President and CEO Justin E. Driscoll said the project demonstrates collaboration on campus energy modernization and clean-energy innovation, while Lachlan Squair, Associate Vice President of Facilities Management at SUNY Oneonta, described it as an important step toward campus decarbonization. The project supports New York State targets to cut greenhouse-gas emissions 60% by 2040, reach a net-zero economy by 2050, and install 10 GW of distributed solar by 2030. New York reached 6 GW of installed distributed solar in fall 2024 and leads the United States in community solar capacity. PowerBank said it has completed more than 100 MW of projects and has a development pipeline exceeding 1 GW.
