Bitcoin rose above $80,000 for the first time in a week after briefly falling to a 10-day low of $76,200 amid escalating Middle East tensions. The rebound carried the cryptocurrency back through $77,000 and $78,000 before it moved above $80,000, reversing a decline that followed Kevin Warsh’s hawkish speech at Jackson Hole last Friday. Altcoins also advanced, with ETH nearing $2,500, BNB moving above $720 and XRP gaining 9% over 24 hours. The sharp move hurt leveraged traders, pushing hourly liquidations to $157 million, including more than $142 million in short positions. Daily liquidations exceeded $400 million, with shorts accounting for $315 million, while nearly 110,000 traders were liquidated. The largest single liquidation occurred on Binance and exceeded $5.2 million.
