Binance warned cryptocurrency users on Sept. 3, 2026, about an increase in phishing attacks involving text messages disguised as urgent account-security alerts. The messages falsely claim that account settings changed, suspicious login activity occurred or another security issue requires immediate action, then direct recipients to shortened links that may imitate Binance login or verification pages. Binance said it never asks customers to verify or secure accounts through text-message links. Users should access the official application or website directly, check suspicious contacts and URLs through Binance Verify, and contact support only through official channels. The exchange recommended withdrawal address whitelists, passkeys, application-based authentication and its Anti-Phishing Code, while noting that it did not disclose victim numbers or losses linked specifically to the latest campaign. Earlier impersonation campaigns included a 2023 Hong Kong case involving approximately $446,000 in losses, while Hong Kong regulators in July 2026 ordered licensed platforms and brokers to adopt phishing-resistant authentication within 12 months.
