CCP Games, the studio behind EVE Online, announced on October 8, 2025, that its upcoming space survival MMO EVE Frontier would move its on-chain infrastructure from Ethereum’s Redstone Layer-2 and MUD framework to Sui, a Layer-1 blockchain (base blockchain network). The partnership is with Mysten Labs, the team that built Sui. Sui’s object-centric architecture and Move programming language fit EVE Frontier’s design, in which ships, outposts and Smart Assemblies are individually owned objects with their own state and history. The network can finalize transactions in as little as 400 milliseconds and processes them in parallel rather than sequentially. Sponsored transactions mean players will not pay gas fees, as the game’s infrastructure will cover those costs. Sui’s zkLogin feature also allows players to authenticate through existing social accounts instead of managing seed phrases. The migration consolidates EVE Frontier’s previous Ethereum Layer-2 stack into a single execution environment intended for parallel, high-throughput workloads, an important consideration for a game planned to support up to 100,000 star systems. The actual testnet migration took place in March 2026 alongside the Shroud of Fear in-game update, with a related hackathon attracting 123 submissions. EVE Frontier will use an on-chain EVE Token as its broader economic layer on Sui, separate from LUX, the internal currency used for everyday in-game exchanges. Earlier testing generated more than 11,000 character creations, providing an early usage measure before the game’s public launch.
