A crypto user reportedly lost about $2.1 million in FXRP after following a link shown in a ChatGPT response and granting a fraudulent website unlimited permission to transfer tokens. Alex, who uses that name on X, had asked in Russian where to exchange Flare's liquid-staked sFLR for wrapped FLR. The response linked to sceptre.network, rather than the legitimate Sceptre liquid-staking application at sceptre.fi. Blockchain records show 1,904,513 FXRP was drained shortly before 7 p.m. UTC on June 12 after the attacker invoked the approved contract permission. The amount represented roughly 1.3% of the FXRP supply, while investigator VAL estimated the broader phishing operation had taken more than $2.2 million. VAL traced portions of the assets through DAI, ETH and Tornado Cash, and identified a receiving wallet that had been active since April and received at least four Flare-based tokens.
