Balancer has sent on-chain messages to wallets linked to the August 31, 2026 exploit of a legacy Balancer V1 BPool, offering a bounty for the return of about $234,000 in stolen funds. The protocol said it would not pursue legal action over the return itself if its conditions are met, but warned it would deploy technical, on-chain and legal measures to identify those responsible if the offer is not accepted. Balancer set the response deadline at 5:00 AM Beijing time on September 9, equivalent to 21:00 UTC on September 8. Earlier reporting had described a later deadline of 5:00 p.m. UTC on September 9. The incident followed a previously disclosed weakness in Balancer's immutable, no-longer-maintained V1 contracts that could enable liquidity-provider funds to be drained. SlowMist estimated the loss at about $234,000 after an attacker exploited a rounding weakness involving WBTC reserves.
