The presidential office rejected speculation that the ruling Democratic Party of Korea will seek additional property-tax easing beyond the current level. Ha Joon-kyung, senior presidential secretary for economic growth, said the party’s earlier proposals had been distorted and that the revised bill approved at a Cabinet meeting on the 1st fully reflected the agreement between the government and party. The revision restored the comprehensive real estate holding tax basic deduction for owners of a single home who do not live in it from 900 million won to 1.2 billion won. Separately, a party proposal to apply a 1.4 billion won deduction uniformly, without distinguishing between owner-occupiers and non-occupiers, remained under discussion. Ha also said U.S. signals on new semiconductor tariffs and demands for domestic investment were being handled through working-level discussions within previously agreed limits. On market volatility linked to single-stock leveraged exchange-traded funds, he said trading volume and turnover speed had fallen sharply, limiting their potential market impact, although they had affected public sentiment; he added that considerable stability had since emerged.
