Shinhan Life has introduced a dedicated voice phishing response system that identifies suspected fraudulent transactions in real time and can block losses before customers file reports. Developed by upgrading the insurer’s existing FDS (fraud detection system), the platform analyzes login, access and transaction data through key stages of customer activity, including insurance payout applications. Risk-based controls can require additional authentication or restrict transactions, while notifying customers and sending text messages. The upgrade began in March and took about five months. It added integrated monitoring and a visual management interface covering detection through response, and allows new detection scenarios to be added or adjusted as fraud methods evolve. The system is connected to Shinhan Financial Group’s joint voice phishing response framework, enabling affiliates’ suspected-fraud information to feed into the FDS. Shinhan Life said the system supports its response under the revised Special Act on Prevention of Telecommunications Financial Fraud Damage and Refund of Damage Amounts, which permits financial companies, telecommunications providers and investigative agencies to share information on suspected voice phishing. A Shinhan Life official said the company would continue strengthening safeguards for customer assets as fraud techniques become more diverse and sophisticated.
