The $70 million film Bitcoin is in post-production and presents Craig Wright's version of the Satoshi Nakamoto story, with Casey Affleck playing Wright under director Doug Liman. Pete Davidson plays Wright's financial backer Calvin Ayre, while Gal Gadot and Isla Fisher are also among the film's stars. AI versions of Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos and Jack Dorsey appear on screen. The production used artificial intelligence to generate sets, with actors performing on a bare stage; producer Ryan Kavanaugh described the approach as a major cost saving. Wright's claim to be Bitcoin's creator was rejected by the High Court of England and Wales in 2024, which found that he did not write the Bitcoin white paper or create the network and that he had committed extensive and repeated forgery. A contempt finding followed in December 2024 after Wright filed a £900 billion claim against Bitcoin developers and companies, resulting in a suspended 12-month sentence. Former Mt. Gox chief Mark Karpelès responded by directing readers to bitcoin.movie, an unattributed page built around public court judgments that argues the film reverses the findings. The film was pitched at the Cannes market in April, but no distributor has signed on and no release date has been set.
