Banco do Brasil invested $5 million from its proprietary treasury in a Digitally Native Structured Note issued by Citigroup Global Markets Funding Luxembourg SCA through Euroclear’s Digital Financial Market Infrastructure (D-FMI) platform. The bank described the deal as its first digital note investment and the first transaction of its kind involving a Latin American institution. Citi’s London branch acted as the issuance and payment agent, while Euroclear’s blockchain-based infrastructure handled the note’s issuance, registration and management. Banco do Brasil said the model can reduce operational steps, improve traceability and support more integrated settlement, reconciliation and asset management. Francisco Lassalvia, vice president of Wholesale Banking at Banco do Brasil, described financial-market digitization as a long-term structural development. Roksolana Dushynska, Global Markets Issuance Equity Structuring Manager at Citi, said the transaction advances Citi’s work in digital capital markets. The latest account says the transaction took place on the 19th, while the existing record dated its announcement to September 1.
