Global cryptocurrency market capitalization reached about $2.82 trillion, its highest level in more than seven months, as Bitcoin traded near $81,460, up 5.4% on the day. The market has rebounded from roughly $2.3 trillion in early February after falling from about $3.4 trillion in mid-January. Zcash rose above $1,000 to a record high, while Cardano gained 13% and Dogecoin and XRP each advanced about 10%. Strategy and Circle each climbed about 15%, and Coinbase added about 10%. Bearish sentiment has weakened since Bitcoin crossed $80,000, supported by about $100 million in exchange-traded fund inflows and over-the-counter trading, Paul Howard, a senior director at Wincent, said. Markets are focused on the Federal Open Market Committee meeting on September 16, with pricing implying a 50.4% chance of a 0.25 percentage-point rate increase and a 49.6% chance of unchanged rates. The simultaneous rise in Bitcoin and gold has also renewed interest in the debasement trade, a strategy designed to hedge against a decline in the dollar's value amid concerns about U.S. fiscal conditions.
