Taiwan’s weighted stock index surged 693.47 points, or 1.51%, on Friday to close at 46,551.13, recovering the 46,000-point level on turnover of approximately NT$825.6 billion, or $26.1 billion. All three major institutional investor categories were net buyers, combining for NT$62.872 billion of purchases after two sessions of selling. Foreign investors and mainland Chinese capital, excluding foreign proprietary traders, accounted for NT$56.213 billion, approximately $1.8 billion, with buying concentrated in electronics manufacturers, semiconductor companies and relatively low-price-to-earnings AI server suppliers. Compal Electronics led foreign purchases with 69,366 lots, while its shares rose 7.35% to NT$41.6 on volume of 141,500 lots. United Microelectronics, Hon Hai, Wistron and Yageo were also among the main targets, while Taiwan Business Bank faced a second consecutive session of heavy foreign selling. The rebound followed a two-day foreign selling streak in which investors had sold nearly NT$140 billion of Taiwan stocks. The Taiwan dollar also strengthened NT$0.125 against the U.S. dollar to close at NT$31.63, supported by the equity inflow, while markets awaited U.S. August nonfarm payrolls data and assessed Federal Reserve policy prospects.
