De Nederlandsche Bank transferred approximately 86 metric tons of gold from New York and Ottawa to London between March and August, framing the move as crisis preparedness and a way to improve the tradability of its reserves rather than a rejection of Washington. About 59 metric tons were sold in New York and repurchased in London, making nearly 70% of the transaction a book transfer; only 27 tonnes physically crossed the Atlantic. DNB holds 612.4 tonnes of gold worth 72.2 billion euros at the end of 2025. New York's share fell from 31.3% to 18.5%, while London's rose to 32.1%. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse used the relocation to argue that global finance still moves value through slow, legacy processes. He contrasted that with crypto's growth from a $1.5 billion experiment to a $2.7 trillion asset class and cited stablecoins as an example of faster settlement. A Bank for International Settlements prototype using the XRP Ledger anchored official statistics in three to five seconds, with verification taking one to two seconds. XRP traded near $1.40, down 3.65% on the day but up 21% over three months.
