Anthropic is evaluating whether to develop its own payment and billing systems rather than rely entirely on Stripe, according to a Staff Software Engineer opening on its Billing Platform team. The role covers pricing primitives, payments infrastructure, contracts, entitlements, revenue pipelines and reconciliation, reflecting the complexity of Claude subscriptions, prepaid credits, monthly invoices and token-based API pricing. Stripe currently supports payments collection, invoicing, subscription management, checkout optimization and revenue-data syncing to BigQuery. Anthropic appears to be in an evaluation phase, with no public timeline or announced scope for in-house development, but the hiring activity shows it is committing engineering resources to the issue.
