The Vancouver Canucks signed 20-year-old defenseman Zeev Buium to an eight-year, $75.04 million contract beginning with the 2027-28 season. Buium could have become a restricted free agent after the upcoming season, but said he wanted to remain in Vancouver after joining the team in the Dec. 12, 2025, trade that sent Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild. Selected No. 12 overall by the Wild in the 2024 NHL Draft, Buium recorded 26 points in 76 games during the 2025-26 season, including 12 points in 45 games with Vancouver. General manager Ryan Johnson said the deal reflects the organization’s view of Buium’s future development, character, leadership in the dressing room and desire to win.
