Hong Kong-based AI-economy settlement layer AEON launched Agentic Checkout, a product that lets artificial intelligence agents search for products, select items, create carts, and make purchases across e-commerce platforms including Shopify and Amazon. The service integrates the Model Context Protocol (MCP), a framework for connecting AI models with external tools, and the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), a standard for digital commerce interactions. Users describe their needs conversationally, then authorize payment through an AEON AI Card that settles over Visa and Mastercard networks. The card supports single-use agent cards and predefined budgets, allowing task-specific spending without exposing a user's primary payment credentials, treasury wallet, primary wallet, or traditional credit card. AEON said its crypto-based authorization connects on-chain assets with existing payment infrastructure. Through Shopify, agents can search more than 3 million active storefronts in over 175 countries; AEON identified Amazon and Travala as the next environments it plans to support. The company said full card numbers and security codes are excluded from conversation logs and model context, while uncertain payment states are checked before retries to prevent duplicate charges. The launch follows AEON's AI agent payment gateway on BNB Chain and its agentic commerce integration with Reserve. AEON said its settlement layer has processed more than $514 million in cumulative volume across 2.3 million users, with backing from YZi Labs, IDG Capital, and HashKey Capital.
