Woori Bank launched Woori Team Korea Savings 2 on the 6th ahead of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games opening on the 19th, offering a 3.0% base rate and up to 4.5 percentage points in preferential interest for a maximum annual rate of 7.5%. The flexible-installment account accepts monthly contributions of up to 300,000 won, or approximately $220. Bonus rates depend on cheering-board activity, Team Korea’s final standing, and customers’ Woori Bank account history. The product is Woori Financial Group’s second savings offering linked to the national team, following an earlier product tied to the Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo Winter Olympics. It comes after a Liberation Day account offering 8.29% and amid intensified competition among South Korean banks for deposits. Time-deposit balances at the five major commercial banks rose by more than 55 trillion won in July and August after inflows resumed in May.
