The International Monetary Fund said Bitcoin added to El Salvador’s holdings since the first review of its 40-month Extended Fund Facility came from private donations rather than public funds. The fund said it does not expect further Bitcoin accumulation beyond the documented donations. El Salvador has also transferred majority ownership and operational control of the Chivo wallet to a private operator, while retaining a minority stake and responsibility for customer assets. IMF staff and Salvadoran authorities agreed to improve transparency across the country’s Bitcoin wallets, strengthen governance and risk management for public-sector crypto assets, and update the digital-asset legal, regulatory and supervisory framework. El Salvador’s reserve tracker lists about 7,764 BTC, valued at roughly $630 million at a Bitcoin price of $81,150. The staff-level agreement remains subject to IMF Executive Board approval before the next disbursement.
