Ethereum's Layer 2 networks (secondary scaling networks) and DeFi (decentralized finance) tokens are outperforming major crypto sectors as scaling activity reaches a new milestone. Trader Daan Crypto said Sunday that Ethereum, L2s and DeFi led major sectors over the previous week, excluding smaller memecoins. Blockchain data from growthepie shows L2s now process 94% of transactions across the combined Ethereum mainnet and L2 ecosystem, providing a fundamental backdrop for the market rotation. L2s handled approximately 29.95 million transactions per day, compared with 1.97 million on mainnet, and accounted for 97% of ecosystem throughput. Base secures about $14.51 billion, or 41% of Ethereum L2 value, while Arbitrum holds roughly $12.47 billion. Robinhood Chain has reached $2.8 billion after increasing its secured value by more than 150% in 30 days, while ARB recently surged more than 120% amid accelerating activity around the network. In DeFi, L2s processed approximately 337 million transactions over 30 days, or about 99% of combined L1 and L2 DeFi activity. Uniswap recorded more than 57 million L2 transactions during that period. Capital, however, remains concentrated on Ethereum mainnet, which holds roughly $162 billion in stablecoins and about $49 billion in DeFi total value locked. ETH was trading near $2,500 after recovering from roughly $2,390 earlier in the week, while Ethereum ETFs extended an inflow streak as broader crypto fund demand returned. The data points to a two-part ecosystem in which L2s handle activity while mainnet remains the capital and settlement layer, helping explain why market strength has spread into DeFi and L2 assets rather than remaining limited to ETH.
