ZKsync developer Matter Labs has outlined five security measures for chains using EraVM, which will be retired within six months as development shifts to the Atlas upgrade. Funds in ordinary externally owned accounts require no action, while assets held in smart contracts (self-executing blockchain code) will require steps and dates that Matter Labs plans to publish in the coming weeks. The measures include recommending that public EraVM chains extend their execution delay from three hours to 24 hours, deploying an independently hosted second node to confirm each executed batch, delaying publication of covered Era protocol code until three months after upgrades, requiring notices for Instant Upgrades, and developing the EraBender prover alongside Boojum. EraVM, introduced in 2023 as the first production zkEVM (zero-knowledge Ethereum-compatible virtual machine), will continue settling value during the transition, while new protocol capabilities will be developed on Atlas. Matter Labs said the security work will continue through monitoring, internal reviews and safety tooling, with some technical details potentially withheld where disclosure creates a material security risk.
