The ASX 200 finished little changed at 9,011 on Monday after rising 33 points, or 0.4%, to 9,039 in morning trading. Gains in non-energy minerals, energy, logistics and other sectors were offset by declines in technology, commercial services and healthcare. Early sentiment benefited from broadly higher Asia-Pacific markets and signs the Trump administration might seek to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon without a formal agreement, but advances faded as U.S. stock futures fell amid renewed Middle East tensions and reported tit-for-tat strikes by Washington and Tehran targeting vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and elsewhere. Australian August services growth was revised higher, confidence improved to near pre-war levels, and job advertisements rose for a second consecutive month, helped by seasonal Christmas hiring. China is due to release August CPI, PPI and trade data later this week, while Wall Street was closed for a holiday. Energy stocks outperformed, with Woodside up 1.6% and Santos 1.7%; Ingenia Communities surged nearly 15%, while technology lagged as Xero fell 3.9% and Wisetech dropped 3.8%.
