Taiwan's stock market moved above 47,000 on September 7 to its second-highest close on record, lifting its year-to-date gain to 60.72% and making it Asia's best-performing major market, ahead of South Korea. The advance has persisted despite substantial foreign outflows, with overseas investors selling a net $2.407 billion of Taiwanese equities last week and $36.5 billion so far this year, highlighting support from domestic and institutional capital. The TAIEX gained 0.47% for the week, while South Korean shares fell 1.50%, the weakest result among regional markets. Investors are watching August revenue releases from listed companies and the Federal Reserve's September policy decision after stronger U.S. employment data and an eighth consecutive month of expansion in the ISM Manufacturing Index increased expectations of a rate increase. Lin Che-yu of the E.SUN Technology Island Fund said controlled trading volume during pullbacks and rising monthly and quarterly moving averages had supported the market. He said the index could retest its June 23 high of 48,218 points if it remains above the 45,000-point quarterly moving average. In fixed income, Shih Pei-sheng of the E.SUN USD Select High-Yield Bond ETF said August high-yield issuance reached $26.7 billion as financing demand increased from high-performance computing, artificial intelligence and data-center companies.
