Hanwha Investment & Securities has completed a tokenized-securities platform supporting Avalanche and Hyperledger Besu, according to Seoul Economic Daily, as South Korea prepares to bring blockchain-based securities into its regulated capital-markets framework on February 4, 2027. The brokerage began developing the system with FairSquare Lab in 2025, designing it to operate across multiple distributed ledgers. South Korea’s amended Electronic Securities Act and Capital Markets Act will legally recognize distributed ledgers as securities registers while keeping tokenized instruments within existing securities laws. The Financial Services Commission plans to initially permit tokenization of certain privately pooled money-market funds, institutional bonds, unlisted shares issued through trusts and publicly offered fractional investment securities. The Korea Securities Depository is preparing infrastructure that can connect to Avalanche, Hyperledger Besu and Hyperledger Fabric, with access limited to approved institutions. Hanwha has also expanded its blockchain investments, including stakes in Securitize and Digital Asset, while South Korea develops staged rules for issuance, trading, settlement and eventual stablecoin-linked onchain payments.
