President Donald Trump posted an AI-generated image showing him trading Intel stock from $20 to $95, alongside a Truth Social claim about making "Hundreds of Billions of Dollars" on stocks. Intel shares closed at $95.80 on September 4 and reached $95.89 two days later, closely matching the image and nearly quadrupling from their 52-week low of $24.05. The post repeated an image format Trump used last September, when Intel was shown rising from $20 to $30 after the government acquired a 9.9% stake in the chipmaker. A CNN investigation found Trump bought shares in 21 companies shortly before posting favorable messages about them, while ethics filings with the U.S. Office of Government Ethics showed accounts tied to him held Intel and Dell Technologies positions before his public praise. Dell shares have risen more than 300% this year. Trump is not barred from trading stocks as president and has not used a blind trust (independent asset-management arrangement), prompting ethics concerns, although no direct evidence links the posts to his trading decisions. Similar scrutiny followed an August post about SpaceX, but later data indicated that stock’s gains began in premarket trading before Trump posted. Senator Josh Hawley joined Democrats last year in proposing a ban on congressional and presidential stock trading, which Trump criticized. The government’s Intel stake, purchased at $20.47 per share in August 2025, is now worth several times its original value on paper, while watchdogs continue examining presidential posts made near stock gains.
