Jefferies Financial Group stock rose 1.79% to $55.23 on Monday as LAM Trade Finance Group II, a fund in which Jefferies holds a minority interest, escalated recovery efforts against iron ore trader Radiant World. The fund is seeking a freezing injunction, a court order restricting asset transfers, in Singapore against Radiant World, founder Pinkesh Nahar and related parties. Singapore’s High Court is scheduled to hear the application on September 9. The filing follows a United Kingdom court’s worldwide freezing order covering assets linked to the defendants. Point Bonita, which manages the fund within Jefferies’ asset management business, financed invoices associated with Radiant World and Sapphire Minmetals, but counterparties later questioned some supporting documents, Bloomberg reported. Radiant World has denied wrongdoing and said its operations comply with commercial and legal standards, while Rakesh Sethi has rejected claims that Sapphire Minmetals and Radiant World form one corporate group. The dispute has also brought frozen bank accounts, severed trading relationships, additional lawsuits and a Singapore police review. A separate lawsuit alleged that previously paid Glencore invoices and fake contracts were used to support a $31.7 million funding request.
