Hedge-fund billionaire Chris Rokos, one of the UK's richest taxpayers, plans to leave the UK for Greece and open an office in Athens. Rokos was ranked third on The Sunday Times' list of Britain's top taxpayers after paying £330m last year. Greece allows qualifying foreign residents to pay a flat annual tax of €100,000 (£86,000) on overseas income, making it attractive to wealthy individuals. The reasons for Rokos's decision have not been made public, and his representatives declined to comment. His move comes before Chancellor John Healey's first Budget on 28 October, after he declined to rule out tax increases. Rokos also pledged £190m to Cambridge University in March; the donation will fund a school of government named after him that is due to open this autumn.
