Moonwell's proposed governance package could reduce monthly interest accruing on outstanding bad debt across seven Base markets from about $338,785 to $50,273, according to an estimate relayed from risk adviser Anthias Labs. That represents projected savings of $288,512 a month, or roughly 85%, assuming balances and utilization remain unchanged. The reduction would slow the growth of existing debt, not recover cash, forgive principal or return money to suppliers. MIP-X66 entered its vote collection period and combines market-risk changes, revised interest-rate models and the use of protocol-owned reserves on Base and OP Mainnet to recapitalize the USDC market. Moonwell's Sept. 4 update described the post-execution process but did not confirm reserve transfers or provide a supplier repayment timetable. Its execution status and any actual USDC transfers remain unverified. The recovery effort follows the Aug. 27 MAMO market incident on Base, which Anthias Labs attributed in an Aug. 28 post-mortem to inflated collateral accounting and oracle-price manipulation, estimating about $9.1 million in residual borrower obligations at the Aug. 27 evidence cutoff, including about 2.35 million USDC in remaining borrower debt. Moonwell said Zero Shadow had been retained to support recovery efforts, while options remained under review. Reopening Base borrowing would require further risk assessment, so executing MIP-X66 alone would not announce a borrowing restart.
