Korea Zinc’s management-control battle remains uncertain after the National Pension Service backed both candidates for a pivotal audit committee seat at the company’s Sept. 9 extraordinary shareholders’ meeting. The pension fund also supported expanding separate elections for audit committee members and electing four outside directors through cumulative voting. Eight of nine major voting advisory firms, including ISS and Glass Lewis, recommended board nominee Baek In-gyu over Young Poong and MBK Partners’ nominee Park Yu-kyung, while Hanwha Group and LG Chem are viewed as decisive shareholders and overseas funds including CalPERS and NBIM have backed Park. Korea Zinc also reported record first-half revenue of approximately ₩12.445 trillion ($9.3 billion) and operating profit of approximately ₩1.333 trillion ($991.3 million), supported by investments in critical minerals, recycling, semiconductor sulfuric acid and battery materials.
