Renault Group’s Dacia brand is moving production of its Spring electric vehicle from China to Slovenia, allowing the redesigned model to qualify for European purchase incentives and lowering its effective French entry price to €12,200, or about $14,000. The second-generation Spring, unveiled on September 8, starts at €17,900 before credits and will be assembled at Renault’s Novo Mesto plant on the new RG-EV small-vehicle platform. It is the first of four Dacia electric vehicles planned by 2030 under Renault’s futuREady strategy. The larger five-door city car uses a 60 kW motor, a 27.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and has up to 250 km of WLTP range. Its European production is intended to improve access to subsidies that vary by country and household income, while avoiding European Union tariffs applied to Chinese-made electric vehicles.
