Tesla Inc. and XPeng Inc. are shifting the humanoid robotics race toward manufacturing scale as both companies move beyond prototype demonstrations. Tesla has reportedly placed its first large-scale component order, covering roughly 5,000 Optimus robots, although the company has not confirmed the report. XPeng says it has launched an automated production line in China where robots assemble other robots, supporting its target of mass-producing the IRON humanoid by the end of 2026. XPeng’s Guangzhou operation has more than 80% of core processes automated, and its first unit completed assembly and walked off the line under its own power. The company plans initial deployments in stores and corporate campuses before official deliveries in China and overseas markets in 2027. The developments suggest production capacity, component suppliers and industrial automation firms could become as important to the sector as artificial-intelligence capabilities, though commercial adoption still depends on reliable and economical performance.
