Alex Gibney’s nearly four-hour documentary "Musk" premiered worldwide at the Venice International Film Festival and received a 100% Tomatometer score from 10 early reviews. The film portrays Elon Musk’s rise from the dotcom era, his companies and political influence, while examining Tesla’s self-driving and battery-range claims, his relationship with Donald Trump, his government cost-cutting role and personal relationships including Ashley St. Clair. Trailers present competing views of Musk as an exceptional inventor and a chaotic, cruel and selfish figure, with one alleging he could be a fascist. Musk declined an interview and has called the documentary a "hit piece." The film is scheduled for the Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 14, a wide theatrical release on Oct. 16 and an HBO release in 2027. Forbes previously estimated Musk’s wealth at $941.6 billion after he briefly became the world’s first trillionaire in June following SpaceX’s public listing.
