Corporate cybersecurity spending is shifting from traditional penetration testing and vulnerability scanning toward AI-native tools from companies including Anthropic and OpenAI. Security executives say large-company buyers are increasing spending on employee-use monitoring, vulnerability detection and faster patching, while advanced models can identify weaknesses and automate defensive responses at greater scale. Roughly 70% of organizations are expected by 2026 to devote more than 10% of security budgets to AI-focused investments, up from 5% to 7% in early deployments, with mature programs reaching 15% to 25% or more. OpenAI has pledged $1 billion in AI resources, training and support for small utilities and local governments operating critical infrastructure. Consumption-based token pricing can push extensive AI security use to as much as $1 million, with costs rising during incident response. An open letter signed by more than 100 firms, including Google and Microsoft, called for larger budgets and stronger AI integration across cybersecurity frameworks.
