Nvidia director Mark Stevens sold nearly $650 million of the chipmaker’s stock in two transactions, according to a later account that described the sale as the company’s largest insider disposal of the decade. An earlier Securities and Exchange Commission filing-based report valued the sale at $410.84 million and said Stevens sold 1.85 million shares between August 31 and September 4 for $220 to $226 each. Stevens retained nearly 30 million Nvidia shares worth approximately $6.91 billion, or more than 94% of his stake. The selling comes after Nvidia shares rose about 10% following late-August second-quarter results, when revenue and profit roughly doubled from a year earlier amid demand for artificial intelligence processors. Stevens has served on Nvidia’s board since 2008, following an earlier term from 1993 through 2006, and previously worked at Intel and Sequoia Capital. The sale forms part of a broader insider-selling trend among large technology companies, but such transactions can reflect diversification, tax planning, estate considerations or pre-arranged trading plans rather than a clear view on the stock.
