Two recent polls showed President Donald Trump’s approval at tracking lows as concerns over the Iran War and the economy weighed on his standing. The Focaldata/Financial Times survey, conducted Aug. 28 to Sept. 2 among 2,178 U.S. adults, put approval at 32%, down three points from August, with Republican approval at 72% and Democrats leading Republicans by seven points on the generic Congressional ballot. The NBC News Decision Desk poll, conducted Aug. 20 through Sept. 1, recorded 36% approval and 64% disapproval, while Republican approval fell to 80% from 83% in the spring. Only 31% approved of Trump’s handling of the Iran War in the NBC poll, compared with 69% who disapproved. Economic concerns were also pronounced in the Focaldata/Financial Times survey, where 17% approved of Trump’s handling of inflation and the cost of living and 69% disapproved. Gasoline prices averaged $4.15 a gallon on Sept. 8, according to AAA, while the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:SPY) was up 12.1% year-to-date and the S&P 500 had reached an all-time high the previous month.
