LG Uplus (032640.KS) has launched Home Cam Light, an entry-level smart home service costing ₩5,500 per month, approximately $4.1, under a three-year contract. The package includes a Mamca Light camera, 20GB of cloud storage, and compensation of up to ₩50 million, or approximately $37,000, for fire incidents and up to ₩2 million, or approximately $1,500, for video hacking damages. Customers can subscribe regardless of their mobile carrier and choose installation through a home manager visit or courier delivery. The camera supports QHD video, detects people, pets, movement and sound, sends real-time alerts, tracks detected subjects and displays up to four feeds simultaneously. An SD card enables 24-hour continuous recording, while stored footage can also be archived in the cloud. Security features include a Physical Unclonable Function-based chip that generates a unique encryption key for each device, two-factor login authentication and video-data encryption. LG Uplus said the product targets first-time home camera users. The launch comes as South Korea's home camera market grows alongside single-person households and pet-owning families, while privacy exposure and hacking concerns remain barriers to adoption.
