South Korea added 184,000 jobs in August from a year earlier, lifting total employment to 29.151 million and marking the strongest increase since March. Employment growth was driven by people aged 60 and over and service-sector hiring, while youth employment continued to deteriorate and manufacturing and construction remained in prolonged declines. The employment rate for people aged 15 to 64 rose 0.5 percentage point to a record August high of 70.4%, while the youth employment rate fell 1 percentage point to 44.1% and youth unemployment climbed to 5.4%. The government said it would advance its Youth Job Recovery Plan and prepare targeted measures for industries with continuing job losses.
