The Nikkei Stock Average initially rebounded on September 9 as semiconductor-related, wire and cable, SoftBank Group and resource shares attracted buying, rising 524.70 points to 65,794.03 in the morning before narrowing its advance to 225.90 yen, or 0.35%, at 65,495.23. Afternoon selling then pushed the index into negative territory, and it closed 126 yen lower at 65,142 after reaching an intraday low of 65,017. The TOPIX gained 13.28 points to 4,063.61 in the morning, while full-session Prime Market trading value reached approximately ¥9.23 trillion, or $60.1 billion. Decliners outnumbered advancers, with semiconductor, gaming, software, brokerage and retail shares generally weaker, while SoftBank Group rose more than 3% for a fifth straight session. Investors remained focused on whether 65,000 would hold, as yen movements, long-term interest rates, next week's central-bank events in Japan and the United States, and Friday's August Consumer Price Index release limited risk appetite.
