The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs said on the 9th it will establish the tentatively named Korea Livestock Promotion Corporation by merging the Livestock Products Quality Evaluation Service, Livestock Health Control Association and Livestock Environment Management Institute. The move is intended to coordinate livestock production, hygiene and quarantine management, slaughter inspection, grading, environmental management and traceability support, which are currently divided among agencies. The Korea Rural Hope Foundation will also be integrated into the Korea Agency of Education, Promotion and Information Service in Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery to reduce costs, address management blind spots and improve support for young farmers. The ministry plans to create an Integration Task Force this month and proceed with legal and organizational changes while guaranteeing employee employment succession and improving remuneration and welfare benefits. The Korea Racing Authority is not part of the merger plan, but its Gwacheon headquarters is highly likely to relocate as the government promotes the relocation of institutions that do not need to remain in the metropolitan area.
